How to say “–ed words”
Do not
say “id” (for: –ed) in all “past” words that end in –ed
(for example: watched,
cleaned, worked, called) …
… Do not say
“watch-id”, “clean-id”, “work-id”, “call-id”)
In English, you
pronounce the –ed as a separate syllable (sílaba separada) – “-id”
– only when the verb ends in “d” or “t”:
For example:
For all other
verbs, the –ed is pronounced as a “t” or “d” sound*, and not
as a separate syllable
For example:
-
watched sounds like this:
“watcht”
-
cleaned sounds like this:
“cleand” (one syllable, like “hand”)
-
worked sounds like this: “workt”
-
called sounds like this: “calld”
(one syllable, like “cold”)
* to keep it
simple: say the sound – “t” or “d” – that is easier to say).
